Meet Melissa Knot, SharePoint Developer here at Link Solutions, Inc.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THE INDUSTRY, AND WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THIS PATh?
I began my career within IT about 14 years ago as Administrative Support for our department, but I’ve always had a passion for creating graphics and web design, taking college courses and working on various projects in my free time. I‘ve also owned my own Photography business the last 10 years, and I designed, maintained and updated my websites and graphics for the business over the course of that time. So, naturally I felt this position to be the perfect fit!
What advice do you have for women starting their careers?
Continue to learn and challenge yourself! I’ve always been partial to on-the-job learning techniques within the job environment, so as much as you can do to gain the hands-on experience, the better!
What advice do you have for those that may be experiencing a setback?
Keep pressing forward—know that it’s just a temporary delay, and if you continue working hard and trying the best you possibly can, you will reach your goal at just the right time. Like everything else, trust the process!
What inspires you?
My children are most inspirational to me because I want to set the example for them, not only to work hard but, to work toward a career they will enjoy doing each day. I also find that having a good support system is inspirational—family, friends and co-workers who encourage and lead you to look deep within yourself and see what you’re truly capable of.
