HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THE INDUSTRY, AND WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THIS PATh?

I started my HR career in the IT industry over 15 years as an HR Assistant and processed minor HR tasks which lead me to want to learn.  I fell in love with being able to help all team members and giving them an outlet when needed as to why I made it my career path and it has been rewarding.

What advice do you have for women starting their careers?

Learning to manage conflict is one of the skills I value most. Conflict is inevitable. People tend to avoid it at all costs, even though, when addressed early and well, conflict is ultimately the engine for positive change and growth. Taking on conflict isn’t easy but it’s immensely important! Focus on solutions; the opportunity to bring people together in support of a common goal is an opportunity to lead.

What advice do you have for those that may be experiencing a setback?

Reflect on setbacks just long enough to learn from them. Take responsibility for your part in the setback (because you do have a part in it!), decide how you’re going to address it, and move on. At all costs, do not become cynical. Cynicism is the enemy of learning, of creativity, and of growing as a leader.

What inspires you?

Collaborating with a smart, creative team to tackle complex problems and produce efficient and elegant results.
