Link's Inspiring women
In honor of Women’s History Month, Link is recognizing the incredible women who make our company exceptional.
Meet Megan Felesky, Data Analyst/Knowledge Manager here at Link Solutions, Inc. Megan works as a member of the Information Operations V-Team and we assess, design, develop, and implement processes and solutions across the organization
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THE INDUSTRY, AND WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THIS PATh?
When I first started my education path at the College of Charleston Honors College, I wasn’t yet sure what I wanted to study. Once I got most of my general education requirements out the way, I needed to start taking classes that aligned more closely with my career goals. I had a few ideas and took some related classes but ultimately decided those career paths weren’t for me. My dad, who also works in IT, suggested I might enjoy computer science courses. I enrolled in Programming I and quickly fell in love with the critical thinking and problem-solving aspect of IT. I went on to major in computer science and received my bachelor’s degree in December 2021.
What advice do you have for women starting their careers?
My primary piece of advice is to be a self-starter. Don’t wait around for others to show you how to do something all the time. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, but try to figure it out on your own first. Being able to problem solve and figure things out is 90% of IT.
My second piece of advice is to get involved even if it means you are the only female there. I took several classes and joined multiple clubs where I was one of only two or three women, if not the ONLY one. Though IT may be a male dominated field, this doesn’t mean that women don’t belong. You are only depriving yourself of opportunities by failing to get involved! The field of IT is so vast, so try new things to see what interests you.
HOw does Link support you in your professional goals?
Link Solutions provides me with numerous training opportunities and even offers financial assistance for professional and personal growth. This provides me with valuable skills for my current and future positions.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by my teammates and supervisor who are always coming up with new ideas and products. I am inspired by my husband and my dad, who both work in IT. I love bouncing ideas off them. My soon to be 16-year old labrador retriever mix, Cuddy, also inspires me because of his love for life and enthusiasm despite his arthritis. He encourages me to live life to its fullest despite life’s circumstances. I am happiest when I am serving others instead of always putting myself first. I enjoy seeing things get done and being done right the first time. This inspires me as a knowledge manager to ensure effective communication of necessary information.
